Superchunk- No Pocky for Kitty

Quintessential porch-drinking college rock. Sloppy, partially-evolved and delightfully naive, Superchunk's deal-maker builds raunchily on the foundations of indie rock. "Throwing Things," is is exceptionally, almost exaggeratedly pure of heart, while "Tie a Rope to the Back of the Bus" anthemically fucks-shit-up.

Baroness- The Red Album

Proggy sludge from Savannah, Georgia. Baroness's first and only LP is contemplative and heavy, dabbling in the darker corners of southern rock and folk-metal weirditudes. Consistently listenable and fairly technical, the album plays through nicely and with notable congruency. "Isak" is particularly noteworthy, in terms of fun-as-hell riffage.

Japandroids- Post-Nothing

You probably already read the Pitchfork review, but it's worth reiterating. Two dudes from Vancouver pound it out hard, loud and sincerely.

Blank Dogs- Under and Under

Super spooky Avant-Garage from reclusive Brooklyn man with a mask obsessession. Important record for any intelligent weirdo. Don't try and compare it to anything, especially not Joy Division.
